BAE Systems also has just completed Pier 4, a 415-foot-long, 64-foot-wide pier. Triton Engineers, Inc. served as lead design for both projects – New Pier 4 and Bulkhead; and Pier 1 Dry Dock Expansion. Four major facilities were designed to support berthing and operation of the dry dock including:
- Construction of an underwater bulkhead adjacent to the north edge of Pier 1 to support local deepening at the dry dock berth;
- Dredging and excavation to deepen the dry dock berth;
- Construction of an independent mooring dolphin and hardened section of Pier 1 to secure the dry dock; and
- Construction of fixed ramp wharves to enable vehicle and pedestrian access to the dry dock.
